No. 2004. Weight = 9 pounds 5 ounces. Includes black Tolex Custom Historic case with tags & case key. From a smoke free, climate controlled home and in excellent condition for a quarter century old '59 Reissue.

Condition- Has some patina on the nickel plated metal parts. Body has a minor ding on the rim near the input that's not through the finish (see photo). Setup is fine & it plays really nice. The neck is a '59 medium beefy style. no fret wear. The hang tag with the guitar's serial no. is from another guitar, as the numbers don't match. We rang Gibson & they say they did not supply a Certificate with the "Custom Shop Reissue's" back then. They said it's an "R9." We asked if the fingerboard is Brazilian & the guy says ...."could be." Looks like it, but no way to verify. It's a very pretty top and fingerboard!

We feel we've priced this 25 year old beauty correctly, and that it could easily be priced higher. So, you can score a very cool Custom Historic R9 at the right price.

Here's a note we received from Mr. "SB" who seems to know lots about these beauties. His opinion:

"Hi,
As someone who owns 4 vintage guitars with Brazilian boards, and is very knowledgeable about the Historic Les Pauls, I highly doubt this guitar has a Brazilian board. I think the most reliable characteristic of Brazilian rosewood is that it has fewer, and longer, pores than Indian rosewood. The pores in this guitar's board look like Indian rosewood, and that is what Gibson specs stated at that time.

What I think is most distinctive about the 1999-2000 Historic Les Pauls was the authentic finish and its gorgeous faded-red color. They were also more historically accurate in their construction than the previous reissues"
